Mental training â I used to think it was for athletes who get really nervous at competitions. Iâve always been quite calm when competing, and the bigger the event, the better I usually perform. Iâve said this throughout my sports career, and I recently learned that this is actually a tool in mental training.
âI perform my best under pressureâ (or Swedish version âjag Ă€r bĂ€st under pressâ) became my mantra throughout the World Championship in Spain.
Through the Swedish Equestrian Federation, our Working Equitation national team has had free access to sessions with Maria Sundin. I first met her about three years ago, and weâve had regular meetings ever since.
Maria has helped me so much with the way I think, prepare, plan and handle my emotions during competitions. She has given me tools that I can adapt and shape in a way that works perfectly for me, and I have no doubt that her coaching has been a big part of my silver medal.
Of course, I do get nervous when itâs a World Championship, but the better prepared you feel, both mentally and physically, the less reason you have to be nervous.
Iâm so happy I dropped my prejudices about mental training and gave it a go!
If you want to get in touch with Maria Sundin, you can find her contact information on her profile here: Sporre Academy
Thank you Maria for being a part of my journey
